Meet the Maker with the founder of CENTRED.
In celebration of International Women's Day this year we want to highlight some incredible women and fellow female founders. Introducing Laura Tudor the founder of CENTRED. We caught up with Laura to discover everything from how CENTRED started, to what inspires their work.
"I created CENTRED for women and men like me and you, trailblazers, trend setters and earth shakers looking to take some time out to balance our hectic lives. Our mission is to help you find those much needed moments of calm, to support you to feel good so you can continue to keep earth shaking."
1. What inspired you to start CENTRED?
After a particularly stressful period in my life closing a previous business, I experience burnout. After a few months I started to experience the physical effects of the stress I had been through which led to me loosing around a third of my hair. My confidence plummeted and it look a long time to regrow my hair and eventually my confidence. In my desperation I really struggled to find products to help support my body and recover my hair. This struggle and talking to my friends hearing about so many other women going through similar experiences as to what I’d been through is what let me to the first idea for CENTRED.
CENTRED is an exciting performance driven haircare, scalp care and nutrition company that take an inside out and outside in approach to haircare. We are on a mission to eradicate the affects that stress has on hair, helping you feel good and grow healthy strong beautiful hair.
2. What do you mean ‘An inside out and outside in approach to haircare?’
Our hair is the last part of our body to receive nutrients, but the first to be withheld from, that means that in times of stress, nutrients are sent to the more vital organs of your body and your hair is unfortunately the first to suffer. We take a two pronged approach to haircare, from the inside with targeted nutrition to make sure you are providing your body with all the vitamins and minerals it needs to support healthy hair growth and from the outside with scalp care and haircare specifically designed to repair and nourish.
3. Scalp care is becoming increasingly talked about, can you talk us through why caring for your scalp is just as important as caring for your hair?
At the end of the day your hair is grown from your scalp, it is the flowerbed for each and every strand and needs to be cared for. We hold so much stress and tension in our scalps and often forget that it is an extension of our skin. We included a scalp massage oil to our range to help lower those cortisol levels, we’ve all experience that head massage in the salon and never wanted it to end. We designed our hero En Root Treatment so that you could give yourself a head massage at home.
4. Why is incorporating sustainability important to you and how do you do it?
Our mission is to leave our planet much better than how we found it. Sustainability is embedded deep within our DNA and I took a grass roots approach when designing CENTRED. I visited waste and recycling plants to really understand the lifecycle of a product and understand what happens to its packaging after we use it. Each and every component of our products has been carefully considered from our product down to each and every piece of our packaging.
We have also recently took one more step forward and are extremely proud that we have a new sustainability impact partner, for every bottle sold we remove 10 x the amount of plastic from the environment.
5. If you could give one piece of advice about to someone just starting their hair wellness journey, what would it be?
The hair growth cycle is a very slow process, so patience can be very important. If you are currently experiencing hair loss it is normally the impact of something that may have happened three months ago. The most important thing is to not worry, in fact your body is doing exactly what it is supposed to be doing. The best thing you can do is to try and reduce the stress in your life and take a supplement such as our Tender Love and Hair Supplements along with improving your diet.
6. What do you feel were the biggest highlights for your brand in 2021?
Oh, so many, launching in Liberty London was a big highlight, it’s one of my favourite shops to go to and living in London it has always been somewhere I have always loved and taken friend to when they visited, seeing our products each and every time instore is always a pinch me moment.
7. What's next for Centred? Is there anything coming up in the future that we should keep an eye out for?
We have so many exciting things instore for this year, I have just closed my first ever investment round as up until now CENTRED was all self funded, we’re currently expanding our team and are about to move into our very first premises, watch this space!
