Going vegan can not only lead to health improvements but also save millions of animal lives.
According to a Kantar study published in uk.veganuary.com, in 2019 more than 1.3 billion Brits took part in the initiative which led to an estimated 3.6 million animal lives saved. Research also suggests most participants will not resume their previous food consumption habits when the month-long vegan pledge is over. Meaning there’s an extended positive effect.
And it only starts there, for 2020 there are other impressive metrics estimated, based on the people who signed up:
41,200 tonnes of CO2eq from the atmosphere, the same as 450,000 flights from London to Berlin
160 tonnes of PO43-eq (eutrophication) from waterways, the same impact as preventing 650 tonnes of sewage from entering our waterways
2.5 million litres of water, which is enough water to fill an Olympic-sized swimming pool
